Purple-leaved willow herb: A highly variable perennial. Similar species are difficult to tell apart. Opposite lance-shaped to oval, pointed and toothed with short or no stock. Leaves vary in colour from green to purple. Leafy stems, green to purple, 15-50 cm tall. Secondary branches emerge from leaf axles. Flowers are white, pink, or rose-purple and are 2-8 mm long. Flowers are located atop the stems. Blooms in June and July. Narrow seed pods are 3-10 cm long and grow below the flower.
Spreads rapidly from year to year. Starts growing early in spring. Very common. |
