Mouse-eared chickweed: A hairy biennial or perennial herb. The flowering stems are erect and 10-60 cm tall. The vegetative stems tend to sprawl on the ground and root at the nodes. The vegetative stems are crowded with oval to lance shaped leaves which are 10-35 mm long and 2-10 mm broad. The 5 white, 4-8 mm long petals are surrounded by 5 hairy, green, white margined leaves (sepals) of the same length. The seed capsule is cylindric, about 8-16 mm long, and when it opens it has 10 short teeth. The seeds are reddish-brown and about 0.8 mm long. The plants flower from early spring to late fall and are native to Eurasia.
Differs from common chickweed by being more or less hairy all over and having bigger flowers. |
