Chamisso's cotton-grass: A perennial herb that spreads extensively by creeping rhizomes. The stems are solid, stout, and 30-70 cm tall. There are a few leaves, up to 2 mm wide, that are located primarily at the base of the plant. The oval, dark seeds are about 2 mm long and are surrounded by very long, reddish to white soft bristles. The bristles are what give the plant its "cotton-top" appearance.
Chamisoo's cotton-grass is native to British Columbia. It forms dense stands, is competitive and difficult to control. |
