Tall buttercup: An almost hairless to very hairy perennial with slender fibrous roots. The hollow stems are erect, freely branched, 0.3-1 m tall, and do not root nodally. Basal leaves are up to 20 cm long with the blades broadly heart shaped in outline, 2-8 cm long, apparently deeply 5-lobed, and again less deeply divided into sharp pointed segments. The yellow flowers are usually 5 petalled. The petals are 8-14 mm long, mostly over half as long as broad. There are 15-40 seeds produced per flower. Each seed is 2.5 mm long and one third as thick as broad. They are hairless, smooth, with a broad and flattened beak. The plants flower from May to August and are native to Europe.
