Gray sedge: The stems are mostly 10-60 cm tall and are loosely to densely clustered on short to very short rhizomes. The leaves are clustered near the base, equal to or shorter than the stems. They are flat and 1.5-3.5 mm wide. There are 4 to 8 cone-like, seed bearing structures (spikes) at the top of some stems and each cone is 5-10 mm long. The upper spikes are closer together than the lower ones. The seeds are surrounded by a special "skin" or perigynium which is light greenish to dull silver or pale yellow in colour and is 1.8-2.5 mm long. The plants are native to British Columbia.
