Douglas' spirea Douglas' spirea: A 0.5-2 m tall, erect, freely branching, perennial shrub. The young growth has fine, soft, crisp hairs or is sparsely hairy. The older growth has hairless, dark brown bark. The 2.5-10 cm long leaves are dark green and smooth above and paler, hairy to densely felt-like below. The leaf edges are faintly toothed at the leaf tips (no more than half the length of the leaf). The pink to deep rose flowers are 1.5-2 mm long. The flowering segment of the stem is 4-30 cm long and the flower clusters are usually oblong to conical in shape (several times as long as broad). The small, shiny fruits are 2.5-3 mm long. The plants flower from June to August and are native to British Columbia.
