Scirpus or Wool grass: A perennial herb which does not have rhizomes. The semi-round stems are in clumps and are commonly 0.8-1.5 m tall. The leaves are flat, grass-like, and mostly 2-6 mm wide. The seed bearing portion of the plant is surrounded by black-based, leaf-like structures of unequal length. Usually the largest bract is at least 10 cm long. The seeds are yellowish, three angled, and a little under 1mm long. They are surrounded by 6 bristles. The plants are native to British Columbia.
